Documentation of statistics The students and qualifications of educational institutions draws an overall picture of the students and attained qualifications in education leading to a qualification or degree. All post-comprehensive educational sectors (upper secondary general, vocational, polytechnic, university) are covered by these statistics with harmonised concepts and classifications. Starting from 2013, the education code 201999 also includes pupils in additional education outside comprehensive schools (until 2012 included in the data of education code 201101) and for the first time data on completers of additional education (qualification). The data do not include educational institutions providing pre-primary, basic and post-basic education abroad. Data on pre-primary education in early childhood education have been added retrospectively for 2013 to 2019. In the table, pre-primary education arranged in connection with comprehensive school in 2004 to 2012 is presented in the education sector basic education. Data for 2020 have been corrected as concerns WinNova educational institution (6,768 persons added). Data on pre-primary education pupils for 2021 has been corrected on 25 April 2023. The figures published previously on 25 October 2022 were a total of 58,570 in pre-primary education, 48,907 in connection with early childhood education and 9,663 in connection with comprehensive education. Data on general upper secondary education for 2021 has been corrected on 25 April 2023. The figures published previously on 25 October 2022 were: number of students 107,247 and number of new students 36,900. The figures for those having completed comprehensive education do not include data on Åland from 2020 onwards. The data for 2022 do not include data on comprehensive education in the International School of Helsinki. The numbers of completers of the international matriculation examination, Deutsche Internationale Abitur; Reifeprufung (Dia) were corrected for the years 2021 and 2022 on 20 September 2024. The erroneous figures were 57 qualifications (in 2021) and 58 qualifications (in 2022). The correct figures are 26 qualifications (in 2021) and 29 qualifications (in 2022). Data on pre-primary education pupils for 2023 has been corrected on 3 April 2025 as concerns pre-primary education provided in connection with early childhood education and care in Åland. The corrected figure is 299 (previously published 598). The correction of the figures also had an effect on the total number of pupils in pre-primary education in 2023. The number of pupils was 52,271 (previously published 52,570). The data on preparatory instruction and lower secondary education for adults are included under education code 201999. From 2024 onwards, the data include both preparatory instruction for lower secondary education for adults and lower secondary education for adults, the qualification data include only those having completed lower secondary education for adults. The level of education in preparatory instruction for lower secondary education for adults is 11 and that in lower secondary education for adults 21.
